Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Paul Dainton ["DAIN ton"] has been assigned by the Springfield Falcons of the AHL to the Royals. In a separate transaction, defenseman Ryan Button has been assigned by the Boston Bruins from the Providence Bruins to Reading.
Dainton (5'11/189) (25), a first year pro from Halifax, Nova Scotia, has compiled a 6-3-2-1 record with a 3.25 goals against average and a .896 save percentage in eighteen appearances with the Chicago Express this season. Two of Dainton's wins for Chicago came against the Royals-including Reading's most recent game, a 5-2 loss in Chicago last Saturday in which Dainton made 20 saves on 22 Reading shots. Dainton has also played three AHL games this year with Springfield (1-2-0, 4.30, .836). Last season, after completing his senior season at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Dainton played five games for Springfield, compiling a 2-2-0 record with a 2.83 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. In his four seasons at U-Mass, Dainton went 45-61-12 with a career 2.79 goals against average and a .908 save percentage-third best all-time for the Minutemen. Dainton, who was chosen as a team captain in his senior season at U-Mass, established school records with 123 total games, 3,226 career saves, and 7,043 minutes played.
This marks the fourth trip of the year to Reading for Button, who has three points (1g-2a) and two penalty minutes in eight games with the Royals this season. Button, who scored his first pro goal last Friday in a 9-2 win for Reading over the Chicago Express, has an assist and ten penalty minutes in twelve games with the P-Bruins this year.
The Royals return to action tonight (Friday, January 13, 2012 @ 7:05 pm) when the team will face the Elmira Jackals at the Sovereign Center in Reading. That night, the Royals will host a happy hour from 6:00 - 7:30 pm in "ËThe Corner' Bar and Restaurant inside the Sovereign Center.
