Wheeling Nailers News Release

TOLEDO, OH- The Wheeling Nailers made their first road trip to the state of Ohio on Friday night, when they visited the Toledo Walleye at Huntington Center. Unfortunately for the Nailers, goaltender Rob Nolan wasn't exactly a hospitable host, as he turned aside 19 shots, leading Toledo to a 3-0 victory.

With 7:56 remaining in the first period, the Walleye opened the scoring, as they found the twine with a power play goal. Kyle Rogers took the puck in the left corner, and set up Joey Martin, who scored on a one-timer from the left face-off dot.

Late in the second period, Toledo added to the lead with a pair of goals. With 4:43 remaining, Kyle Rogers took a feed from Andrej Nestrasil, and snapped in a wrist shot from the right circle. 3:31 later, Kyle Bushee's clearing attempt was kept in the offensive zone by Matt Krug. After Phil Rauch's shot was kicked aside by Patrick Killeen, Joey Martin pounced on the reboud, knocking it back for a 3-0 score at the end of 40 minutes of play.

Neither team was able to light the lamp in the third period, as the Walleye were able to hold on for the 3-0 victory.

Rob Nolan picked up his first win with Toledo, after being traded to the Walleye from the Chicago Express, stopping all 19 shots he faced. Patrick Killeen made 30 saves for the Nailers, but ended up on the short end of the decision.

The Nailers will face the other Ohio team on Saturday night, when they visit the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:35. Wheeling's next home game is also against Cincinnati, as the team returns to WesBanco Arena on Sunday afternoon at 4:05.
