San Antonio Rampage News Release

SYRACUSE, New York (March 27, 2009) - San Antonio won their fourth game in their last five behind the stellar goaltending of Karl Goehring as the Rampage pulled away for a 4-1 win at Syracuse on Friday.

After last night's 5-4 win in Lake Erie where San Antonio averaged nearly 12 shots a period, the Rampage got only six shots on goal in the first. The Crunch, however, were limited to just five shots with both teams going 0 for 2 on the power play to close a scoreless first.

In the second, San Antonio drew first blood capitalizing on the man advantage. Joel Perrault beat Syracuse goalie Kevin Lalande at the 13:17 mark to register his 13th goal of the season. Rookies Brett MacLean and Chad Kolarik received helpers as the Rampage took a 1-0 lead into the third.

Goehring, getting his third straight start, was sharp stopping all ten Syracuse second period shots. Goehring had allowed six goals in Hamilton on Tuesday and four goals last night against Lake Erie.

In the third, the Rampage gave Goehring some cushion when Garth Murray tallied his 11th of the season three and half minutes into the period.

But Syracuse was relentless letting off 24 third period shots and cut the lead to 2-1 when Alexandre Picard ended nearly 113 scoreless minutes against San Antonio with a power-play goal.

Josh Tordjman and the Rampage ended their franchise record 17-game winless streak with a 3-0 shutout of the Crunch back on December 4th.

But San Antonio put the game away with two empty net goals in the span of twelve seconds for a 4-1 win. Wyatt Smith tallied the first at 18:37 of the third and Alexander Nikulin followed with an assist from David Spina.

Perrault's goal extended his points streak to five games, while MacLean and Spina extended their points streak to four games. Goehring got his second straight win stopping 38 of 39 Syracuse shots.

Tonight was the second game in as many nights for the Rampage who return home for a West Division matchup with Rockford tomorrow.

Saturday's meeting with Rockford is Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Night. America's Sweethearts will be in town hosting a dance clinic, meet and greet and will perform during both intermissions on ice at the Rampage hockey game.
