Peoria Rivermen News Release
PEORIA, Ill. (March 27, 2009) - For the first time since 1982, the Peoria Blades will take the ice on Friday, April 3 as part of History of Hockey Night. The Peoria Rivermen will wear replica jerseys of Peoria's original professional hockey team to be auctioned off following the game to benefit the Children's Hospital of Illinois.
The Rivermen will be celebrating their hockey heritage with displays of memorabilia from the Blades (Continental Hockey League: 1972-82), Pekin Stars (CHL: 1977-79), Danville Dashers (CHL: 1981-86), Peoria Prancers (International Hockey League: 1982-84), and the Rivermen (IHL, ECHL, AHL: 1984-present). Fans with any collectibles from these teams that they would like to share are asked to contact Andrea Gschwend (309-680-3562).
There will be a replica of the Kelly Cup from the Rivermen's 1999-2000 championship season displayed on the concourse. Some members of the original Blades team will be on hand for a ceremonial puck drop.
Former season-tickets holders are also invited to the game for a pregame reception hosted by former ECHL Rivermen player Tyler Rennette and former Rivermen broadcaster Norm Ulrich. The reception will be held in the Lexus Club from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and will include a cash bar with complimentary snack food. To make a reservation please call Katie Kerr (680-3791).
Discounted tickets are available for those affiliated with the former teams of Central Illinois as well as former-season ticket holders. For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact the Rivermen front office at 309-676-1040.
The Rivermen are home tonight as they host the Milwaukee Admirals at 7 p.m. Immediately following the game there will be a concert from country music sensation Jimmy Wayne. Tickets are available at the Civic Center box office, by calling 309-676-1040 or online at www.rivermen.net.
