Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 3-1 Friday evening in front of 7,759 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Zach Hamill, Johnny Boychuk and Wacey Rabbit. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday for Team Poster Night versus the Worcester Sharks at 4:05 p.m.
Providence took a 1-0 advantage at the 4:34 mark of the opening period. Mikko Lehtonen stole the puck along the boards and fed Hamill in front of the net. He poked it in for his 12th goal of the season. The P-Bruins went into the first intermission leading 1-0.
The P-Bruins went ahead 2-0 at the 11:37 mark of the second period. Jeff Penner held the puck at the left point and sent it around the boards for Martin St. Pierre behind the net. He found Boychuk at the right point, who tallied his 20th goal of the season. Providence went into the second intermission leading 2-0.
Manchester pulled within a goal at the 13:00 mark of the third period. Vladimir Dravecky netted his sixth goal of the season, while Viatcheslav Voynov and Marc-Andre Cliché recorded the assists. The P-Bruins added an empty net goal at the 18:48 mark. Rabbit scored his 15th goal of the season, with Brad Marchand and Boychuk getting the assists. Providence went on to the 3-1 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 23 of 24 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jonathan Bernier made 30 saves for the Monarchs. The P-Bruins were 0-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins hit the road Saturday to take on the Hartford Wolf Pack at the XL Center at 7:00 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend at home at The Dunk Sunday for Team Poster Night against the Worcester Sharks at 4:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
