Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators outshot the Hershey Bears 47-35, but were unable to solve netminder Michal Neuvirth as the Bears defeated the Senators by a 4-0 final in the last meeting of the season between the two East Division squads.
Hershey netted its first goal in the opening period off the stick of Kyle Wilson. Defenseman Sami Lepisto fed Wilson a cross-ice pass in the neutral zone as Wilson skated behind the Senators defense. Wilson crossed over the front of the crease and wristed a shot past Jeff Glass on the stick side.
The Bears added to the lead early in the second period when defenseman Karl Alzner fired a shot from the slot through traffic and past Glass into the top right corner of the cage. Left-winger Chris Bourque made it 3-0 just minutes later when several players battled for a loose puck in the slot area, with Bourque finding the loose puck and sending it past several players and into the net with a wrist shot.
Former B-Sen Alexandre Giroux capped the scoring for Hershey with his league-leading 52nd goal midway through the second stanza.
Mitch O'Keefe, who relieved Glass after Hershey's fourth goal, stopped all 14 shots he faced in 28 minutes of relief work. The Senators were shutout for just the fourth time this season. The last shutout loss came against Toronto on Nov. 21, a span of 55 games.
The B-Sens (38-27-5-3, 84 pts.) look to return to the win column tomorrow night when they host the Rochester Americans (26-40-0-7, 59 pts.) at 7:05 p.m. Good seats remain for this contest. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com, by calling ticket master at 722-7272, or at the Arena box office inside the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
