March 27, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release
Leland Irving stopped 26 shots en route to his first professional shutout in a 2-0 Quad City win over Iowa on Friday at the i wireless Center. Kris Chucko and Cam Cunning supplied the offense in the win as the Flames returned to the .500 mark at 30-30-6-6.
The teams skated scoreless through the opening 20 minutes. Flames goalie Leland Irving made 11 saves including a stop on an Eric Boguniecki breakaway. Iowa netminder David LeNeveu responded with a dozen saves. LeNeveu also stopped a breakaway as he denied Kris Chucko in the game's first minute.
After 36:51 of scoreless hockey, Kris Chucko broke through with 3:09 left in the middle period. Chucko scored on the rebound after LeNeveu had stopped Brandon Roach on a wraparound attempt. The tally held up as the only goal of the middle period, and the Flames held a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes.
In the third period, Cam Cunning added an insurance goal while Irving turned aside four shots to cap his first shutout.
The Flames visit Chicago on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The Hayman's Ace Hardware Pre-Game Show begins at 6:35 p.m. on 93.9 FM WYEC. The game can also be seen live at ahllive.com for just $6.00.
