
Rampage Edge Stars 3-2 In A Shootout

San Antonio, TX - The Texas Stars (32-20-4-4, 72 points) were defeated by the San Antonio Rampage (34-23-2-0, 70 points) 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday night in front of 10,447 fans at the AT&T Center. The Rampage trailed 2-0 in the first two rounds of the shootout, but managed three shootout goals in the last five attempts to nip the Stars in the extra session. Forward Luke Gazdic and defenseman Dan Spang each scored regulation goals as Texas finished its eight-game road trip at 3-3-1-1. San Antonio goalie Matt Climie (21-16-0) stopped 24 of 26 in regulation and five of seven shootout attempts for the victory. Texas goalie Tyler Beskorowany (5-4-1) made 29 saves in regulation and stopped four of seven attempts in the shootout defeat. The Stars return home to host Oklahoma City at 5:00 PM on Sunday at Cedar Park Center.
Texas scored the lone goal of the first period, as Luke Gazdic carried the puck into the San Antonio zone and worked the puck past Rampage goalie Matt Climie at 10:01 for a 1-0 Stars lead. Forwards Cody Chupp and Sean Backman set up Gazdic's ninth goal of the year.
The Rampage tied the game at 1:51 of the second period as Alexandre Picard set up Garrett Stafford for the team's first goal of the night. Stafford, a former Texas Star, scored his 12th goal of the year to tie the game 1-1. Texas countered less than four minutes later at 5:13. Defenseman Dan Spang finished off a two-on-one rush on a cross-ice feed from Brandon Segal. Spang's ninth goal of the year gave the Stars a 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
Late in the third period, the Rampage tied the game to force overtime. Ned Lukacevic scored off a rebound at 4:27 to tie the game 2-2 and force extra time.
After a scoreless overtime, Texas moved in front with shootout goals by Colton Sceviour and Francis Wathier in the first two rounds. Rampage goalie Matt Climie stopped the next five attempts. San Antonio's Viktor Tikhonov, Randy Robitaille and Brett MacLean each scored for the Rampage shootout victory.
The Texas Stars home to face the Oklahoma City Barons on Sunday, February 27th at 5:00 PM. Tuesday night, the Stars welcome the Abbotsford Heat to the Cedar Park Center at 7:30 PM. Every Tuesday is an H-E-B Night as fans may bring a non-perishable H-E-B food item to the Cedar Park Center box office to receive a $5.00 discount off their ticket. Tuesday is also a 3-2-1 Night, where fans may purchase $3.00 domestic drafts, $2.00 soft drinks and $1.00 hot dogs.
