San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage edged the Texas Stars 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday night in front of 10,447 fans at the AT&T Center. The game marked San Antonio's second-highest attended game in franchise history for the Rampage's 8th annual Military Appreciation Night. The team wore military-themed jerseys which were auctioned off after the game and raised a franchise-high $44,000 to benefit Operation Comfort and the Rampage sled hockey team.
San Antonio forwards Randy Robitaille, Brett MacLean and Matt Watkins all notched assists in the contest extending their point streak to two games.
The Stars were the first to score 10:01 after the initial puck drop when left wing Luke Gazdic carried the puck into the Rampage zone along the right wing wall and skated from right to left in front of the crease before sneaking the puck behind Rampage goaltender Matt Climie's right leg for a 1-0 lead.
The Rampage evened the score at 1-1 with Garrett Stafford's 12th goal of the season at the 1:51 mark of the second period. Left wing Alex Picard skated down the slot toward the left goal post and passed to Stafford across the crease where he fired a shot that went top shelf over the glove of Stars netminder Tyler Beskorowany. MacLean provided the second assist.
Texas claimed a 2-1 advantage after defenseman Dan Spang received a cross-ice pass at the left faceoff dot and snapped a shot to the high stick side of Climie 5:13 into the middle frame.
San Antonio netted the equalizer for a 2-2 score at the 15:33 mark of the third period on Ned Lukacevic's fourth goal of the season. Watkins wrapped around the back of the net and passed to Robitaille in the high slot who fired a shot that was deflected by Beskorowany to the right goal post where Ned Lukacevic was positioned to punch it home.
Neither team was able to light the lamp for the remainder of the third period sending the game to overtime and eventually a shootout.
Rampage forwards Viktor Tikhonov, MacLean and Robitaille each scored in a seven-round shootout securing the San Antonio victory at 3-2.
Climie finished the night with 24 saves on 26 Stars shot attempts and also stopped five of seven in the shootout while Beskorowany turned aside 29 of 31 Rampage shot attempts and made four saves out of seven attempts in the shootout.
The Rampage improve to 70 points with a 34-23-2-0 record and will return to the ice on Wednesday when they host the Abbotsford Heat at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
