Florida Panthers Acquire F Tim Kennedy and 2011 Third Round Draft Pick

SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has acquired F Tim Kennedy and a third round draft pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft from the New York Rangers in exchange for D Bryan McCabe. Kennedy has been assigned to Florida's American Hockey League affiliate, the Rochester Americans.

"Tim Kennedy is a young, skilled forward that had a good rookie season last year and will be given an opportunity to develop within our organization," said Tallon. "In addition, by acquiring another 2011 Draft pick we now have ten total selections this year and another opportunity to make a significant impact on the future of our franchise come June."

Kennedy, 24, has played in 79 National Hockey League games for Buffalo (2008-10) scoring 10 goals with 16 assists and 50 PIM. During the 2009-10 season Kennedy led all Buffalo rookie forwards in goals (10), assists (16), points (26) and shots (98). The Buffalo, N.Y. native played three years of college hockey at Michigan State University and won a NCAA Championship in 2007. Kennedy paced Michigan State in scoring in back-to-back seasons (06-07 and 07-08).

Kennedy was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the sixth round (No. 181 overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

"Bryan McCabe was a peerless leader and terrific captain for our team and is a terrific person. This is the tough part of this business, but on behalf of the entire Panthers organization we wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future," said Tallon.

McCabe, 35, has played in 199 games with Florida registering 104 points (28-76-104) and 152 PIM, while serving as the club's captain for the past two seasons. He was acquired by Florida on Sept. 2, 2008, from the Toronto Maple Leafs along with a fourth round draft selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Mike Van Ryn.

Kennedy can make potentially make his Amerks debut on Sunday, February 27th as Rochester hosts the Syracuse Crunch at The Blue Cross Arena. The 3:05 p.m. matinee will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
