Syracuse, NY - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Syracuse Crunch 3-2 on Saturday night. Nigel Dawes recorded the game-winning goal for the âDogs as he extended his goal-scoring streak to six games.
The Bulldogs opened the game's scoring at 8:08 of the first frame. Brendon Nash collected the puck at the point before blasting a shot on net. The puck sailed through traffic and over the left shoulder of Syracuse starting goaltender Timo Pielmeier.
The Crunch tied the game 1-1 at 8:59 of the opening stanza. Josh Green received the puck from Nicolas Deschamps before blasting a shot on net. Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford made the save but was unable to control the rebound, allowing Kyle Palmieri to grab the loose puck and fire it past the goaltender.
Kyle Klubertanz regained the lead for the Bulldogs at 10:49 of the first period with a power-play goal. Dustin Boyd carried the puck into the Syracuse zone before feeding a pass to Klubertanz. Klubertanz skated down the left side before snapping a shot that bounced off the post and into the back of the net.
Robert Mayer replaced Sanford in the Hamilton goal to start the second period.
The âDogs increased their lead to 3-1 at 4:25 of the second stanza. Nigel Dawes received the puck from Andreas Engqvist before skating into the Crunch zone on the right side. Dawes rifled a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that beat the blocker of Pielmeier and went into the net.
Syracuse made the game 3-2 at 4:43 while on the power-play. Nick Bonino sent the puck to Josh Green, who proceeded to send a pass to Patrick Maroon. Maroon finished the three-way passing play off by tapping the puck past a down and out Mayer.
