Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Goaltender Pascal Leclaire made his B-Sens debut tonight as the Binghamton Senators welcomed the Rochester Americans to town for the fourth and final time during the 2010-11 regular season. Leclaire was warmly welcomed by the 4,292 fans in attendance who hoped the net minder, assigned to Binghamton by Ottawa for conditioning, would help lead their team to their ninth straight victory.
Despite making 30 saves on 33 shots, Leclaire's counterpart Tyler Plante did one better stopping 31 of 33 shots faced, to help the Amerks outlast the B-Sens through four periods and a shootout en route to a 3-2 victory.
Kenndal McArdle scored in regulation for Rochester and was the lone player to register a goal in the shootout, winning the game for the Amerks in the fifth round.
Corey Cowick opened the scoring in the game, scoring his first goal as a Binghamton Senator at the 8:40 mark of the second on a B-Sens power play. Jim O'Brien and Mike Hoffman earned credit for the helpers.
The Amerks answered with less than five minutes remaining in the period as Michael Duco snapped off a shot which beat Leclaire high glove-side, sending the teams off for intermission tied at one.
McArdle added to Rochester's lead just 2:13 into the third period, but former Amerk Andrew Sweetland buried his third goal of the season with just 1:21 remaining in regulation to tie the game and force overtime.
Neither club was able to score in extra time, so they headed to a shootout where both teams were scoreless in the first four rounds of shooters. After Plante denied the O'Brien, McArdle beat Leclaire on a backhand shot just inside the right post to send Rochester home with the 3-2 win.
With the loss the B-Sens fall to 32-20-3-4 on the season. The team does however remain unbeaten in regulation in their last eleven games, earning 20 out of a possible 22 points.
The B-Sens are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Glens Falls to take on the Adirondack Phantoms at 3 p.m. Fans can listen live on 680 WINR-AM or 1430 WENE-AM beginning 30 minutes before game time for Countdown to Faceoff with Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens.
