
Pirates Stumble in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA - Tom Sestito and Nikita Filatov each netted a goal and an assist to lead the Springfield Falcons to a 4-1 win over the Portland Pirates in an American Hockey League played in front of 3,731 at the MassMutual Center.
Ben Guite and Tomas Kubalik registered the other goals for the Falcons, who improved to 30-26-1-3 with their third consecutive win.
Nick Crawford netted the lone Pirates goal. Portland dropped to 34-17-5-2 with the loss.
The Falcons got off to a quick start as Filatov and Guite scored in the opening six minutes to put the home side up 2-0. Crawford brought the Pirates back to within one with five-and-a-half minutes left in the first to leave the Falcons up 2-1 after one. There was no scoring in the second sending the two teams into the third in a one-goal game. Sestito and Kubalik scored in the third to complete the scoring.
The Falcons out shot the Pirates 32-27 in the game as Jhonas Enroth took the loss.
The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the Game were all from the Falcons. Filatov was the first, Sestito the second and goaltender David LeNeveu the third.
The Pirates will be back in action at the Civic Center on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. as the UNUM Challenge continues against the Worcester Sharks.
