BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Feb. 26, 2011) - Bud Holloway and Brandon Kozun each scored two power play goals and Jeff Zatkoff stopped all 26 shots he faced as the Manchester Monarchs powered past the Bridgeport Sound Tigers by a score of 5-0. With the win, Manchester sweeps the home-and-home series against the Sound Tigers and improves to 37-18-2-5. The Sound Tigers fall to 21-31-3-4.

The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead via a five-on-three power play goal midway through the first period. Mark Wotton took a high-sticking penalty at 9:27, and Benn Olson went to the box 17 seconds later after he fired the puck out of play from his own zone for a delay of game penalty. On the two-man advantage, Jake Muzzin's initial shot from the point was stopped by Mikko Koskinen, but Bud Holloway banged the rebound home for his 21st goal of the season to put Manchester up by one at 10:41 of the opening period. The Sound Tigers controlled much of the play in the period and had the puck deep in the Monarchs zone on multiple occasions, but Manchester's defense managed to clog the areas in front of netminder Jeff Zatkoff who also stopped eight shots in the period to keep the score 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Manchester would strike again on the power play 1:00 into the second period as Brandon Kozun skated into the slot and sent the puck past Koskinen's blocker for his 18th goal of the season to give the Monarchs a 2-0 lead. The power play continued to hit on all cylinders for Manchester as Holloway would score his second goal of the night with the man-advantage at 7:53 from the point to make the score 3-0. The Monarchs pushed the lead to four at 12:47 of the period. Holloway held the puck by the blue line and sent it behind the Sound Tigers net. Justin Azevedo collected the puck behind the net, came around the left post and beat Koskinen before he could slide to his right to give Manchester a 4-0 lead.

The final Manchester goal was met with some controversy. The Monarchs were on a power play late in the third period and Mark Wotton's clearing attempt hit the netting above the glass in the Sound Tigers zone. However, referee Joe Sullivan never blew the play dead despite both teams stopping momentarily and Monarchs defenseman Jake Muzzin motioning that play should be stopped. Manchester quickly continued the play, leading to Brandon Kozun's tap-in to the left of Koskinen at 17:33. That led to a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Wotton, as well as a 10-minute misconduct and a game misconduct as the Sound Tigers veteran captain argued that play should have been stopped. Brett Gallant also received a match penalty at 17:33, and Tomas Marcinko was give a 10-minute misconduct at the end of regulation of a game win which the Sound Tigers were handed 17 penalties compared to only seven infractions on the Monarchs.

The Sound Tigers return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host the Hershey Bears at 3 p.m., and former Sound Tigers Rick DiPietro and Trent Hunter will be on hand to drop the ceremonial first puck
