Haydar, Mannino Lead Wolves Past Peoria, 5-2

ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves broke the game open with four goals in the third period to pick up a 5-2 win over the Peoria Rivermen before 10,310 fans at the Allstate Arena Saturday night.
Right wing Darren Haydar led the way with two goals to help the Wolves collect their sixth victory in the last seven games, while forwards Fredrik Pettersson and Jason Krog and defenseman Paul Postma also scored. Goaltender Peter Mannino (15-14-3) shut the door the rest of the way, kicking out 24 of 26 shots he faced.
"I thought we were very sharp tonight," said Wolves Head Coach Don Lever. "It was a see-saw game until we took the lead and then our special teams came through. We had a nice week, and it's nice to win at home."
After a scoreless first period, Adam Cracknell opened scoring for Peoria (33-23-2-3), 1:26 into the second frame. Right wing David Spina carried the puck into the Wolves zone and fired a shot at Mannino, and Cracknell moved in and pushed the rebound into the net.
Chicago (32-24-2-4) evened it up, 1-1, with a tally from Haydar at 10:23 of the second frame. Left wing Tim Miller fell to his knees in the right face off circle but managed to push the puck across for Haydar, who popped it past Rivermen goaltender Jake Allen.
Haydar put the Wolves ahead, 2-1, at 3:34 of the third period. Defenseman Jaime Sifers dropped the puck for Haydar in the right face-off circle and the right wing clapped a hard shot past Allen.
The Wolves took a two-goal lead with a power-play goal from Postma at 5:25. Krog sent a pass across the ice for Postma in the left circle and he cranked a shot through traffic in front of the net and past Allen.
Chicago made it 4-1 at 7:28 of the third period with a short-handed goal from Pettersson. The left wing knocked the puck up the ice from the blueline for center Jared Ross, who broke down the ice toward the goal and sent a pass over for Pettersson to flip past Allen.
Allen (8-13-2) turned aside 23 shots for the Rivermen.
Brett Sonne knocked the puck under Mannino out of a scrum in front of the net to make the score 4-2 with 50 seconds left to play, but Krog's empty net tally 12 seconds later iced the game for Chicago.
The Wolves and Rivermen will meet again for a rematch at Carver Arena on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
