San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 10, 2006) - The San Antonio Rampage today announced that they acquired defenseman Brad Tiley from the Springfield Falcons in exchange for future considerations. In addition, the Rampage's parent club, the Phoenix Coyotes, loaned defenseman Ray Schultz to the Falcons and recalled left wing Steve Gainey from the American Hockey League team.
Tiley, 34, collected 10 points (1-9=10) in 30 games this season with Springfield. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound blueliner amassed 383 points (99-284=383) in 699 career AHL games over 15 professional seasons with five teams (Maine, Binghamton, Springfield, Philadelphia and Milwaukee).
A native of Markdale, Ontario, Tiley participated in the AHL All-Star Classic three times for Team Canada, twice as a starter (1999, 2000) and once as the captain (2005). Tiley and Schultz were teammates during the 2003-04 season, winning a Calder Cup Championship with the Milwaukee Admirals and scoring seven points (1-6=7) in all 22 playoff games. The 84th overall pick (4th round, Boston Bruins) in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft was a First Team AHL All-Star with Springfield during the 1999-2000 campaign and received the annual Eddie Shore Award as the AHL's Outstanding Defenseman when he posted 68 points (14-54=68) in all 80 regular season games.
The 26-year-old Gainey leads the Rampage with 14 assists and 21 points in 28 games with San Antonio, while registering one assist and two penalty minutes (PIM) in 11 games with the Coyotes during two previous call-ups this season. The 6-foot-1, 192-pound forward from Montreal, Quebec signed with the Coyotes as a free agent on Nov. 4, 2005 and has played in 24 NHL games (0-2=2 and 16 PIM) split between Phoenix and Dallas over parts of four seasons.
Schultz joins the Falcons after playing in 16 games for San Antonio this season collecting one goal, one assist and 28 PIM. Schultz started the season with the Albany River Rats recording five assists and 22 PIM in 18 games played. Schultz is in his ninth season of professional hockey and was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators with their eighth choice (184th overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound blueliner has played in 422 career AHL games collecting 12 goals and 61 assists for 73 points with 1,136 PIM.
Tiley is scheduled to play in his 700th AHL career game on Friday when San Antonio
