Cleveland Barons News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Dan Ellis turned aside 30-saves in a 3-0 win for the Iowa Stars over Barons on Tuesday night. Steve Bernier had a season high eight game point streak come to a close for the Barons, who also had a three game winning streak snapped with the loss.

A fairly uneventful first period of play led to a scoreless opening frame of hockey. The Barons failed to convert on two power play chances and the Stars did not score on their lone attempt in the opening twenty minutes of action. Dan Ellis made his 18th appearance of the year in goal for Iowa with 10-saves in the first period. Nolan Schaefer made all 11-saves in the opening period in his 18th appearance of the season for Cleveland.

Taking advantage of great goaltending from Ellis, the Stars converted two late goals in the second period and led 2-0 after the first forty minutes of play. Junior Lessard, the reigning CCM/Vector AHL Player of the Week converted a two-on-one break for his 11th goal of the season and a 1-0 lead. Loui Eriksson, who assisted on the Lessard goal, scored on a breakaway 5:23 later to extend the Stars? lead to 2-0. Dan Ellis made several key saves in the early going of the stanza and finished with 11 stops in the period. Nolan Schaefer was seven for nine during the middle frame.

Dan Ellis continued the strong play in goal with several highlight saves in a 30-save shutout effort. Mike Iggulden and Lukas Kaspar were both stopped on great scoring chances during the third period by Ellis as the Barons suffered their fourth scoreless game of the year. Junior Lessard completed the scoring with an empty net tally late in the period.

The Barons longest road stretch of the season continues with a Friday night match up with Milwaukee at the Bradley Center. Game time is at 8pm and can be heard and seen live through the Barons official web site, www.clevelandbarons.net. Saturday night the Stars host the Barons again before Cleveland closes out a three game in-as-many-nights on Sunday with a game at Chicago.
