Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Pittsburgh Pirates today selected the contract of right-handed relief pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski, who is currently ranked as their No. 23 prospect by MLB Pipeline. He will become the third pitcher from the 2023 Indianapolis Indians to make his big league debut this season, following right- handers Osvaldo Bido and Cody Bolton.
Mlodzinski, 24, has been one of the Indians' most reliable relievers this season, going 2-2 with a 3.16 ERA (9er/25.2ip) and 31 strikeouts in 19 games. He has allowed one earned run in his last eight games (10.2ip) since May 14 with a 1.13 WHIP and 14 strikeouts. He currently leads all active Indians relievers with at least 11.0 innings pitched in ERA and strikeouts.
The former starter made his first career relief appearance in his Triple-A debut with Indianapolis on Oct. 3, 2021. In 25 total career relief outings, Mlodzinski has registered a 3.94 ERA (21er/48.0ip) and 56 strikeouts.
Mlodzinski was originally selected by Pittsburgh as the 31st overall pick in the 2020 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of South Carolina (Columbia).
