
Myers Helps Jumbo Shrimp Split Doubleheader

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Dane Myers homered twice as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp split their doubleheader with the Memphis Redbirds on Friday, falling 5-3 in game one and taking the finale 5-1 in front of 6,032 fans at 121 Financial Ballpark.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Jumbo Shrimp (30-36) starter Ronald Bolaños (2-7) led the way with six innings of one-run baseball with four strikeouts.
In the first frame, Jacksonville took the early lead thanks to Myers' (4) solo home run off Memphis (35-32) starter Zack Thompson (1-2).
Jake Mangum walked to kick off the bottom of the third inning and Jacob Amaya doubled, putting runners at second and third. In the ensuing at-bat, Myers walked to load the bases. Groshans followed with another walk to put the Jumbo Shrimp ahead 2-0.
C.J. Hinojosa and Mangum singled in the bottom of the fourth. Amaya brought both runners home with a two-run double, to push the lead to 4-0. Myers continued his fantastic day at the plate with an RBI single to make it a 5-0 game.
Memphis brought in their only run of the contest in the top of the sixth. Ivan Herrera doubled with two outs and scored on a single by Juan Yepez, cutting into the deficit 5-1.
The Redbirds took the early lead in the first game of the twin bill. With two outs in the top of the second, Juniel Querecuto (10) blasted a solo home run off Jumbo Shrimp starter Emmanuel De Jesus (2-2).
In the top of the third inning Errol Robinson walked and Masyn Winn singled. After a pop up, Herrera walked to load the bases. In the ensuing at-bat, Yepez knocked a two-run single, pushing the lead to 3-0.
Chase Pinder started the top of the fourth with a single and two batters later, Robinson singled to put runners on first and third. Following a pop up by Winn, Kramer Robertson walked and Herrera smacked an RBI single to give the Redbirds a 4-0 lead.
Myers homered to lead off the bottom of the fourth. Walks by Peyton Burdick, Jordan Groshans, and Jerar Encarnacion loaded the bases. A double play scored Burdick from third to make the score 4-2.
In the top of the fifth inning Moises Gomez (18) hit a solo shot to pad the Memphis lead to 5-2.
Gomez led off the top of the seventh inning with a singled and stole second. Pinder walked with one out. Following a strikeout, Robinson knocked a single, plating Gomez to give the Redbirds a four-run lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jacksonville managed one run on Encarnacion's leadoff solo homer to make the score 6-3. However, the Jumbo Shrimp couldn't muster anymore offense.
Jacksonville hosts Memphis in Saturday's 6:35 p.m. contest. LHP Devin Smeltzer (1-3, 8.53 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp against Redbirds RHP Michael McGreevy (4-1, 4.13 ERA). Coverage begin at 6:20 p.m. on Bally Live, MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 AM and www.ESPN690.com.
Saturday's game is Red Caps Negro League Night presented by Florida Blue and First Citizen's Bank. Fans can learn local and national Negro Leagues history throughout the evening along with a meet and greet with Sean Gibson, great-grandson of Negro Leagues legend Josh Gibson. The Jumbo Shrimp will take the field as the Jax Red Caps and the first 2,000 fans will receive a Charles Harris Jax Red Caps Bobblehead presented by Florida Blue. It is also HBCU Night, as the club recognizes and celebrates HBCU's at 121 Financial Ballpark. Additionally, fans are invited to stay after the game for Saturday Night Fireworks.
