Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Bulls shortstop Osleivis Basabe bashed three hits, setting single-game career-highs with two home runs and six runs driven, while southpaw starting pitcher Jacob Lopez tossed six shutout innings in Durham's 9-2 victory over the Charlotte Knights on Friday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Basabe put the Bulls on the board with his first big fly of the night, a two-run blast in the third. He would go deep again with a two-run blast in the fifth, marking his first career multi-homer game, to double the advantage to four before DH Ben Gamel's two-run shot made it 6-0.
One inning later, Basabe would extend Durham's lead further by driving in two more runs with an opposite-field double to right in the sixth, before the Bulls plated another tally in the seventh for a 9-0 advantage. Charlotte would later end Durham's shutout hopes in the eighth with a pair of scores.
Basabe (3-5, 2 R, 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI) posted a game-high three hits while driving in six runs. Gamel (2-5, R, HR, 2 RBI), 2B Jonathan Aranda (2-4, 2 R, BB) and 1B Kyle Manzardo (2-4, R, 2B, BB) would add multi-hit efforts of their own.
Lopez (6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 SO) earned the victory to improve to 3-0 with the Bulls after firing six scoreless innings, adding four strikeouts. Knights starter Chase Solesky (4.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 7 SO), meanwhile, suffered the defeat.
Durham and Charlotte are slated to continue their six-game series on Saturday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. RHP Evan McKendry is anticipated to get the nod for the Bulls and is slated to be opposed by RHP Sean Burke.
Tickets for that game and all 2023 Durham Bulls home games are available, and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com, or by calling 919.956.BULL.
