Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - The struggles with runners in scoring position continued for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (33-32) as they went just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, stranding 11, in a 5-1 loss to the Toledo Mud Hens (29-37) on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Toledo got on the board straight away in the first inning. Parker Meadows doubled to begin the game and Nick Solak tripled him home. Justyn-Henry Malloy followed with a base hit to plate Solak.
The IronPigs got one of those runs back in the last of the first. Jake Cave singled to open the inning and after a strikeout Darick Hall singled him to third. Weston Wilson then legged out a fielder's choice driving in Cave.
The Mud Hens produced all of the offense the rest of the way. In the third, Tyler Nevin singled home a run before four straight singles opened the fifth for Toledo, the last from Andrew Knapp driving in a run. Michael Papierski followed in the inning with a sacrifice fly to stretch the Toledo lead to 5-1.
Sam Clay (1-2) worked an inning of scoreless relief without allowing a baserunner to earn the win for Toledo. Brenan Hanifee (S, 1) picked up the save, twirling 3.2 shutout innings, allowing three this and two walks, striking out four.
T.J. Zeuch (2-3) suffered the loss for the IronPigs, allowing three runs in three innings on five hits and two walks, striking out two.
The IronPigs and Mud Hens continue their series on Saturday, June 17 with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park.
