Memphis Splits Friday Night Doubleheader at Jacksonville

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds split a doubleheader at the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Friday night at 121 Financial Ballpark.

In game one, a 6-3 Redbirds win, Memphis controlled things early thanks to a first baseman Juniel Querecuto solo home run in the second inning to put the Redbirds on top. Memphis scored in four consecutive innings between the second and fifth and held a 6-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

Left fielder Juan Yepez roped a two-run single in the third inning for his first RBI since being optioned by St. Louis last week. Right fielder Moises Gomez clubbed his 18th home run of the season in the fifth inning.

The Redbirds dropped game two of the doubleheader, 5-1. Yepez registered the lone RBI of the game with a base hit in the top of the sixth inning to plate designated hitter Ivan Herrera. Starter Zack Thompson (1-2) allowed five runs on six hits, walked three and struck out three in 3.2 innings pitched.

The Redbirds (35-32) return to AutoZone Park on Wednesday, June 28 to begin a six-game homestand at 7:05p.m. CDT against the Nashville Sounds.
