Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY - Despite a strong defensive effort, the Syracuse Mets silenced the Bufalo Bisons at bats, as the Herd fell 6-0 Friday night in a rain-shortened contest at Sahlen Field.
The Mets were able to get on the board first, thanks to a Nick Meyer single to center field, scoring Luke Ritter in the top of the second. The RBI base hit gave Syracuse an early 1-0 lead.
Later in the inning, Nick Meyer advanced home due to a Luis Quinones wild pitch, upping Syracuse's lead to 2-0.
Luke Voit furthered the Mets lead to 3-0 with a one-out solo home run in the top of the third. It came off of Bisons' starter Luis Quinones who logged three innings in the loss.
In what would be their second of the game, Ritter homered to left field in the fourth inning, making the score 4-0.
D.J. Stewart upped the Syracuse lead to 6-0 with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning. His 14th home run of the season came with Voit on base thanks to a lead-off walk.
Rafael Lantigua had one of the two Bisons hits in the game with a one-out single in the bottom of the first frame. The other came courtesy of Cameron Eden in the last of the fifth.
Torrential rain started to fall at Sahlen Field in the bottom of the fifth, forcing the tarp to be placed on the field and the game being delayed. Following a half hour delay, the game was made official in the Mets favor
The same two teams will meet on Saturday night in downtown Buffalo. The Bisons are scheduled to send Zach Thompson to the mound for the 6:05 p.m. first pitch.
