Penguins recall center Ben Eaves from Wheeling

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins today recalled center Ben Eaves from their ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers.

Eaves, 22, recorded one goal (power play goal), eight shots and a minus-one rating in two games with the Nailers over the weekend. He was assigned to Wheeling on December 9 for a conditioning stint. Eaves missed the first two months of the 2004-05 season recovering from off-season knee surgery.

The 5'8", 180-pound native of Minneapolis, Minnesota recorded 34 points (9+25) in 26 games last season at Boston College (Hockey East). Eaves ranked second on the team in assists, fourth in points, tied for fourth in goals and tied for second with three game-winning goals.

In four seasons (2000-2004) with the Eagles, he recorded 169 points (53+116) in 125 games. Eaves ranks fifth on the team's all-time list in assists.

Eaves was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth round (131st overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

He is expected to be in the lineup on Wednesday when the Penguins (12-7-4-3, 31 points; T-2ND -Place, East Division) host the Albany River Rats (9-10-4-3, 25 points; 6TH-Place, East Division). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.

Approximately 325 tickets are still available for the game. The first 5,000 fans on Wednesday will receive an Andy Chiodo Bobble Head Doll, courtesy of Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Highmark Blue Shield.
