Pirates Release Basiuk to the Stingrays

PORTLAND, ME - Portland Pirates Head Coach Tim Army announced today that defenseman Scott Basiuk (BASS-ick)has been released from his Professional Try-Out (PTO) with the Portland Pirates. Basiuk will be in the lineup for the Stingrays home game against Charlotte Checkers on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.

Basiuk played in one game for the Pirates this past Friday against St. John's. He did not register a point or any penalty minutes in the game against the Leafs. He will return to South Carolina (ECHL) where he played in 21 games with one goal, four assists and 20 penalty minutes before coming to Portland.

Previous to playing in South Carolina, Basiuk was an All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Second Team selection, had 26 points, including 11 goals and 15 assists, in 38 games in his senior season at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). He scored eight times with the man advantage while three of his goals were game-winners. The second-year captain from Prince Albert, Sask., had seven goals, including six on the power play, and seven assists in 22 ECAC contests.
