Suglobov named CCM/Vector AHL Player of the week

Aleksander Suglobov, a 6-0, 200-pound right wing out of Elektrosal, Russia has been named the CCM/Vector AHL Player of the Week for the period ending December 13, 2004. He scored five goals with two assists in three games last week as the River Rats won two of three and earned points in each contest. In recognition of his achievement, Suglobov will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming River Rats home game.

The 22-year-old matched a career-high by picking up four (2-2) points, including the game-tying goal with 31 seconds remaining in a 5-4 shootout loss to Providence at Pepsi Arena on Wednesday. He followed that with an insurance goal in a 5-2 road victory at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday night. The second year pro then scored the games final two goals, including the winner 49 seconds into overtime as the River Rats snapped a 10-game home winless streak with a 3-2 win over Binghamton on Saturday.

Suglobov was drafted by the New Jersey Devils with their third choice (56th overall) in the 2001 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He leads the River Rats with 11 goals, matching his total from 2003-04 and is tied for tops on the club with 20 points.

Rat Bites:

* C Zach Parise matched an AHL-high and established a career-high with four assists on Wednesday night against Providence. He leads all AHL rookies with 15 assists and 20 points this season.

* The River Rats earned five (2-0-0-1) points last week, after trailing in each of the three contests they played. Albany erased a 4-2 deficit on Wednesday and came back from a pair of 2-0 deficits on Friday in Wilkes-Barre & Saturday vs. Binghamton.

* After missing the first 24 games of the season, LW Ahren Nittel scored goals in consecutive games on Friday in Wilkes-Barre off a face-off and on Saturday against Binghamton.
