Penguins Assign Zlobin to Nailers

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - It was announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned forward Anton Zlobin from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.

Zlobin, 20, spent the 2012-13 season with Val d'Or of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, leading the Foreurs in assists (62) and points (91), while also scoring 29 goals in 61 games. He also ranked ninth overall in the league in points and was tied for fourth in assists.

The Moscow, Russia-native played the previous two seasons with the Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL), totaling 63 goals, 58 assists and 52 penalty minutes over 125 contests. In the championship game of the 2012 Memorial Cup, Zlobin scored both goals - including the game-winner in overtime - to lift Shawinigan to a 2-1 victory over the London Knights.

Zlobin was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round (173rd overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
