Albany Devils News Release
HARTFORD, CT - Keith Kinkaid made 25 saves for his sixth career shutout as the Albany Devils blanked the Hartford Wolf Pack, 3-0, Friday at XL Center. The victory was the Devils third in four tries and Kinkaid's fourth consecutive. Albany (8-6-0-1) jumped Hartford (7-6-0-2) in the Northeast Division.
Offensively, Riley Boychuk netted his first goal as a Devil. Joe Whitney registered his team-leading seventh tally and Rod Pelley scored for the second straight game. Dan Kelly, who has five points in the last three games, registered a pair of assists. Mike Hoeffel, Rostislav Olesz and Chris McKelvie also contributed helpers.
Boychuk opened the scoring off a loose puck at 2:40 of the first period and Whitney followed on an odd-man rush at 6:57.
The Devils defense shut the door the rest of the way. Kinkaid made seven stops in the first, 11 in the second and six in the third. His six career shutouts rank second all-time behind Jeff Frazee's 10 between 2007-13.
In the third, McKelvie forced an offensive-zone turnover, leading to Pelley's empty-net, capstone goal at 18:44.
The Devils, who were outshot 25-20, are now 7-1-0-0 when scoring first, 5-0-0-0 when leading after the first period and 8-0-0-0 when leading after the second.
The Devils head west on the New York State Thruway for a 7 pm game against the Syracuse Crunch Saturday at the War Memorial at Oncenter. Fans can stream the game at AHLLive.com or listen on 104.5 "The Team" ESPN Radio.
