Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators overcame an early third period 2-1 deficit to beat the visiting Adirondack Phantoms 4-2 in front of a crowd of nearly 4,300 fans. Nathan Lawson played stellar all night between the iron stopping 48 of 50 Adirondack shots faced while Jean-Gabriel Pageau put the game winner past Phantoms goaltender Cal Heeter at the 8:48 mark of the third to lift the B-Sens to its fifth consecutive win.
After a scoreless first period Andre Petersson opened the games scoring 7:31 into the second period off assists from Corey Cowick and Frederick Claesson. However, just over a minute later Petr Straka evened the scoreboard at one goal apiece after putting home a loose puck down low. Heeter was hardly tested during the middle frame, stopping five of only six shots faced while Lawson turned aside 14 of 15 Phantom chances.
Adirondack managed to take the 2-1 lead just 3:23 into the final period when Kyle Flanagan beat Lawson off a cross ice pass from Chris VandeVelde. From there on out it was a Lawson highlight reel with the B-Sens goaltender turning aside 21 of 22 shots faced in the final period. Binghamton leveled the score at 2-2 when Stephane Da Costa one-timed a power-play goal off a great pass from Cody Ceci. Pageau notched the eventual game winning tally under three minutes later as he tipped a blast from Tyler Eckford just inside the blue line at the 8:48 mark. With under a minute to play and Heeter sitting on the Phantoms bench in favor of an extra skater, Pageau centered a loose puck in the Adirondack zone and Mark Stone guided in the insurance goal putting away the game.
Heeter finished the night stopping 19 of 22 shots faced while Lawson moved to 7-1-0 for the year with a monster 48 save performance easily earning first star of the night honors. Stone and Pageau each ended the night with a goal and an assist for Binghamton, and Cody Ceci extended his point-scoring streak to six games with his assist on Da Costa's goal.
Binghamton will be on home ice tomorrow as they welcome back the Rochester Americans for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.
