
Bulldogs Fall to Monsters 5-3

HAMILTON, ONTARIO - The Hamilton Bulldogs (5-7-0-3) surrendered four goals in a six-minute span in the second period en route to a 5-3 defeat to the Lake Erie Monsters (8-6-0-0) Friday night at Copps Coliseum. The loss was Hamilton's sixth straight.
Bulldogs forward Justin Courtnall opened the scoring with his second goal of the season at 8:27 of the first period, with assists going to forward Gabriel Dumont and defenceman Jarred Tinordi.
Hamilton forward Joonas Nattinen extended the lead to 2-0 with his second goal of the season at 3:04 of the second period when he redirected a cross-ice pass from forward Stefan Fournier. Forward Steve Quailer drew the second assist on the play.
Just over two minutes after that, Lake Erie started on a four-goal tear over the next 6:01.
Defenceman Gabriel Beaupre got the Monsters on the board at 5:43 of the second period, assisted by forward Mitchell Heard.
Just 35 seconds later, Lake Erie forward Guillaume Desbiens tied the game 2-2, with assists to defenceman Stefan Elliott and Heard.
Elliott scored 1:57 after that to make it a 3-2 Monsters lead, with the only assist on the play going to forward Joey Hishon.
The second-period barrage ended 3:29 later, at 11:44 of the second period, when Heard made it a 4-2 game, with assists from defenceman Tyson Barrie and forward J.T. Wyman.
Hamilton forward Mike Blunden notched his third goal of the season at 12:32 of the third period to close the gap to 4-3, assisted by Nattinen and Quailer.
With 3:41 remaining in the third period, Wyman potted Lake Erie's fifth goal of the game to put things out of reach for the Bulldogs. Defencemen Markus Lauridsen and Elliott drew assists on the play.
Robert Mayer got the start in goal for the Bulldogs, making 15 saves on 19 shots in 31 minutes of action. Dustin Tokarski took over in relief at 11:44 of the second period, making nine saves on 10 shots. Sami Aittokallio made 31 saves on 34 shots for the Monsters in the win.
