SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Nov. 15, 2013) - The Sound Tigers battled back from being down 3-0 against the Springfield Falcons Friday night, but couldn't put home the game-tying goal, losing by a score of 3-2. Dallas Jackson and Anders Lee had goals for the Sound Tigers in the third period, who fall to 4-7-1-1 on the season. Blake Parlett had two goals for the Falcons while Jack Skille added one of his own. Anders Nilsson made 23 saves in the game for the Sound Tigers.
The Sound Tigers came out with a good amount of jump in the first period. Though neither team scored a goal, the Sound Tigers led on shots on goal after one period, 7-4. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play in the first, as well.
It remained scoreless through the majority of the second period, but the Falcons pulled ahead with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart. First, at 13:36, Parlett deflected a slap shot from Tim Erixon that came from center point past Nilsson for the opening goal of the game. Erixon received the pass from Skille before blasting one right towards the stick of Parlett, who was cutting through the slot.
Skille picked up a goal of his own at 15:18 as Kirill Kabanov stopped a shot from Frederick St. Denis. The puck remained loose at the bottom of the left circle, however, and Skille was able to find it before putting it past the Sound Tigers goaltender to give his team a two-goal lead.
Parlett scored another goal early in the third on a 5-on-3. With Brett Gallant and Scott Mayfield in the box, Parlett took a D-to-D pass from Erixon in the right circle and sent a wrist shot off the crossbar and in past Nilsson to give Springfield a 3-0 lead.
The Sound Tigers battled back, however, with two goals 1:55 apart later in the third period. First, Dallas Jackson took the puck over the blue line on the left wing before rifling a wrist shot past Jeremy Smith to make it 3-1. Less than two minutes later, Anders Lee's initial shot was stopped by Smith, but Lee raced hard to the puck to bank it in off of Smith's skate from behind the goal line.
The Sound Tigers had two power plays late in the third period, both on delay of game penalties after the Falcons sent the puck over the glass in their defensive zone. The Sound Tigers pulled the goaltender to make it a 6-on-4 advantage midway through the second man advantage with about a minute remaining. They had a couple of chances late, but it wasn't enough for the Sound Tigers to tie the score.
The Sound Tigers are back in action Saturday night when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack for the first time this season. The puck drops from Webster Bank Arena at 7 p.m.
