Pair of Cougars Voted Midwest League All-Stars
June 8, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Midwest League has announced the rosters for the 2010 All-Star Game, which will be held on Tuesday, June 22 at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana - home of the TinCaps. Two Kane County Cougars players have been named to the Western Division All-Star team in pitcher Ian Krol and catcher Max Stassi. Stassi has been named a Western Division squad reserve, while Krol could potentially be the starting pitcher for the Western Division, although that decision will be made by the All-Star squad's field staff closer to the game date.
Entering play Tuesday, Krol ranks among the league's top 10 pitchers in ERA (2.03) and tops among all A's prospects in that category. Opponents are batting .199 against the Naperville native, who pitched as a high school athlete at Neuqua Valley HS. Krol's All-Star selection marks the second straight year a Chicago-area Cougar has been named a Midwest League All-Star, joining Tri-Cities native Kenny Smalley in 2009.
Stassi has been the main backstop for the Cougars this season and is batting .249 with 8 home runs and 29 RBI. Both Stassi and Krol represent two of the four 19-year olds on the team's current roster.
The Midwest League's 46th All-Star Game is slated for 7:05 EDT on Tuesday, June 22 at Fort Wayne's Parkview Field.
