
P-Bruins Defeat Falcons 4-3 in Shootout

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 4-3 in a shootout Friday evening in front of 9,383 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got two goals from Wacey Rabbit and a goal from Kevin Schaeffer in regulation. In the shootout Matt Hendricks, Brett Skinner and Jeff Hoggan scored. The 34-7-2-1 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins travel to the XL Center Saturday to face the Hartford Wolf Pack. Providence remains ten points ahead of the second place Portland Pirates.
The P-Bruins got on the board first at the 5:47 mark of the opening period. Providence skated into the Springfield zone with a 3-on-2 opportunity. Chris Collins passed the puck to Schaeffer who shot the puck under the crossbar and into the net for his first career American Hockey League goal. Matt Lashoff recorded the second assist as Providence took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Springfield scored three times in the first 8:23 to take a 3-0 advantage. The first goal came only 1:20 into the period, when Ryan O'Marra tallied his second goal of the season. Danny Syvret and Ben Simon picked up the assists. One minute later the Falcons struck again, this time Marc Pouliot with his 12th goal of the season. Rob Schremp grabbed the lone assist. The third Falcons goal came at the 8:23 mark off the stick of Reddox, for his 11th goal of the season. Allan Rourke and T.J. Kemp had the assists. Providence answered back with a goal at the 10:58 mark. While on power play T.J. Trevelyan sent the puck to Rabbit at the back door as he scored his third goal of the season. Hoggan set up the play from behind the net and got the second assist. Providence tied the game at three heading into the third period at the 13:48 mark. Rabbit struck again after Steve MacIntyre tossed the puck to the front of the net. Dwayne Zinger had the second assist.
After a scoreless third period and overtime the game went into a shootout, where the first three players for the P-Bruins scored, Hendricks, Skinner and Hoggan. Pouliot tallied the only goal in the shootout for the Falcons as the P-Bruins went on to the 4-3 shootout victory.
Tuukka Rask started the game for the P-Bruins and stopped 7 of 10 shots. He left the game at the 8:23 mark of the second period and Jordan Sigalet took over stopping all 14 shots he faced. Jeff Deslauriers made 28 saves for the Falcons. The P-Bruins were 1-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
