Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
MILWAUKEE - The Grand Rapids Griffins' offense struggled to get anything going against the Milwaukee Admirals Friday night at the Bradley Center, as the team fell by a score of 4-0. With the loss, the Griffins' saw their season high three-game winning streak and their four-game point streak come to an end.
Grand Rapids will return to Van Andel Arena tomorrow to host the Chicago Wolves at 7 p.m.
Following a scoreless opening period, Mike Santorelli netted two goals early in the second to give Milwaukee a 2-0 lead. Just 1:13 into the frame he slid the puck past Jimmy Howard during a goal-mouth scrum while up by two men, and at 6:55 he soared into the zone behind Antti Pihlstrom and popped his teammate's rebound into the goal.
Milwaukee increased their lead at 17:18 of the final period on a play that infuriated Howard. Kelsey Wilson appeared to bat the puck into the net with his glove during a power play as it was bouncing around on the doorstep, but the referee Jamie Koharski let it stand after a short discussion with his linemen.
Adding insult to injury, the Admirals notched their fourth goal during another 5-on-3 opportunity when Cody Franson took a pass from Janne Niskala and ripped a shot from the top of the left circle into the goal.
Pekka Rinne, who was hardly tested during the contest finished with 15 saves while Howard made 31. Grand Rapids' 15 shots nearly tied a franchise-low for a road game, as the team registered just 14 against Houston on March 13, 2003.
