Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that defenseman Brett Skinner has been added to the Canadian team roster for the 2008 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Reebok. Pascal Pelletier, named a starter for the Canadian squad, will miss the event due to his National Hockey League recall with the Boston Bruins.

Skinner, 24, joins teammates Tuukka Rask and Matt Lashoff, both starters for PlanetUSA, and coaches Scott Gordon and assistant Rob Murray, who will lead the PlanetUSA team, at the event. The game will take place on Monday, January 28 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, New York, beginning at 7 p.m.

The Brandon, Manitoba, native is in his third professional season with his fifth club after being acquired by Boston with fellow blue-liner Nathan Saunders for Mark Mowers from the Anaheim Ducks on September 24, 2007. Skinner is having a career-year with 25 points on three goals and 22 assists in 36 games. As a rookie with the Manitoba Moose in 2005-06, the defenseman had 25 points (4g, 21a), followed by a 28-point (7g, 21a) season a year ago with the Portland Pirates, Omaha Knights and the ECHL's Augusta Lynx. All but four of the points came in the AHL. In Skinner's career, he has 14 goals and 64 assists for 78 points in 168 contests. This year, the former University of Denver Pioneers standout has six multiple-point games, including a season-high three assists against the Albany River Rats in early December. Skinner has also enjoyed two five-game points-streaks, one in November and the other in December. The defenseman was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks 68th overall in round three of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Providence tonight hosts the Springfield Falcons at 7:05 p.m. for Dunkin' Donuts Mug Night. After this evening, the P-Bruins have one more game before the All-Star break, traveling to the XL Center tomorrow to battle the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7 p.m. Next weekend, Providence is off on Friday before getting back into action Saturday, February 3 against Portland at the Cumberland County Civic Center at 7:05 p.m. The P-Bruins then host the Worcester Sharks on Super Bowl Sunday for a special early 2:05 p.m. start at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
