Manitoba Moose News Release

WINNIPEG, MB. -- For the second night in a row the Moose sacrificed the first goal but answered with three to beat the Syracuse Crunch 3-1 Friday night at the MTS Centre. Defenceman Jimmy Sharrow registered two assists and goaltender Drew MacIntyre stopped 27 shots for his second consecutive win heading into his AHL All-Star appearance this weekend.

Within the first 20 seconds of the game, the Crunch made the first goal attempt of the night with a shot on Moose goaltender Drew MacIntyre. Syracuse switched tenders from last night's defeat with Karl Goehring manning the mesh.

At 2:02 Manitoba right-winger Colby Genoway gave Syracuse the first man-advantage of the game, but the visitors were unable to earn a goal. The Crunch profited again at 9:44 when center Alexandre Bolduc was sent to the box for slashing. Although Syracuse tallied up nine shots to Manitoba's three, the game still remained scoreless after both Crunch powerplays.

With five minutes left in the first frame, Crunch defenceman Clay Wilson took the initial gust on MacIntyre, but left-winger Tom Sestito completed the job putting the visitors up by one after 20 minutes of play.

In the early minutes of the second stanza, tempers raged and a punching match between Moose enforcer Mike Brown and Crunch right-winger Derek Dorsett commenced. Brown took control of the fight and as the linesmen interjected, Syracuse's Sestito joined the throng resulting in a 10-minute game misconduct. In the end, however, the Crunch netted their third and fourth powerplays of the game. Brown left the ice with game misconducts while Rick Rypien and Shaun Heshka received multiply penalties offering the Crunch the man-advantage.

Although Syracuse had an extended powerplay, the Moose were next to hit the scoreboard as right-winger Juraj Simek danced around the defence to tie things up at one near the midway point of the game.

Brad Moran took advantage of the third Moose powerplay by working his way to the net and snapping it past Goehring. The go-ahead goal was Moran's 10th of the season and put the Moose up 2-1 heading into the third.

The shot count was even at 24 as the play continued to go back and forth for the first half of the third. With less than a minute remaining, Bolduc slid the puck past Syracuse defencemen finding the empty net to secure a 3-1 victory and two-game series sweep for the Moose.
