NAILERS WEEK IN REVIEW

November 13-November 20

Friday, November 17 Wheeling 2 @ Johnstown 4

The Wheeling Nailers had their three-game winning streak come to an end, 4-2, on Friday night at the hands of the Johnstown Chiefs at the Cambria County War Memorial. Adam Henrich broke a 1-1 tie just 20 seconds into the third period and propelled the Chiefs to a big final frame. After a scoreless first period, Ryan Gibbons opened the scoring with an assist to both Ian MacLean and the zamboni door. Just over two minutes into the second, MacLean's dump-in wrapped along the boards, bounced off the crack in the boards and slid into the slot. Andy Franck was out of his net to stop the puck that never came. The puck wound up on the stick of Gibbons who wristed it into the empty net. That goal would stand until the final second of the period. Tim Wallace scored his second goal of the season at the 20:00 mark. On the power play, Sean Collins and Kurtis McLean combined to send the puck in front that Wallace banged home as the horn sounded. Henrich's early tally in the third gave the Chiefs a lead that they would never relinquish. Randy Rowe scored just under six minutes later and Zbynek Hrdel scored six minutes after to increase the Chiefs' lead to three. Jordan Cameron's blast from the top of the circle with just 39 seconds to play brought the Nailers within two but that would be it for the Wheeling offense. McLean and Collins both had two assists as the Nailers outshot the Chiefs 31-30. Wheeling killed off seven of the eight Johnstown power plays.

Nailers Weekly Recap

Saturday, November 18 Wheeling 1 @ Cincinnati 2

The Wheeling Nailers couldn't hold their 1-0 lead in the third as the Cincinnati Cyclones beat the Nailers 2-1 Saturday night at US Bank Arena in Cincinnati. It was a game that proved to be the ironic reversal of last Saturday's 2-1 Wheeling win in Cincinnati. Matt McDonald's first goal of the season, at 15:47 of the final period was the game winner. The only even strength goal of the game came as Barrett Ehgoetz worked the puck out of the corner catching a couple Nailers out of position. His cross-ice feed set up McDonald who beat Andy Franck with a wrister to the glove side. The Nailers scored their only goal in the second period. Joe Jensen's third of the year at 11:11 came on the Wheeling power play. Sean Collins picked up his 12th assist of the season. Jensen beat Dov Grumet-Morris on a wrist shot from the face-off dot. Grumet-Morris saved 41 shots including 16 in the second and 17 in the third. Cincinnati tied the score 3:55 into the third as Corey Urquhart roofed a shot through traffic over a sprawled out Franck. Franck stopped 24 shots in the losing cause.
