South Carolina Stingrays News Release

The Week That Was:

The Stingrays played four games last week and finished with a 1-2-1 record. They were defeated in all three games at home, including a shootout loss to Augusta 4-3 and losses to Charlotte 4-3 and Columbia 3-2. They ended their four-game losing streak with a victory against the Charlotte Checkers yesterday evening 1-0.

The Rays are 8-6-1 on the season for 17 points. This ties them for 2nd in the Southern Division with Gwinnett, just one point behind Florida.

The 17 points also ties the Rays for second in the American Conference with Gwinnett.

After the week, the Stingrays have a record of 4-5-1 when playing at home for 9 of their 17 points and have not won a home game since November 7th.

On Saturday, November 25th fans get one more chance at the Dunkin' Donuts MILLION DOLLAR CHUCK-A-PUCK!

For those who didn't watch last Saturday, Jennifer Wallis of North Charleston came down to shoot the puck. She had never shot a hockey puck before, let alone on ice, and she came within two feet from winning the million. Wallis's shot was right on the line and lost steam just after entering the crease. Everyone in the Coliseum held their breath as Wallis missed three times before connecting with the puck for that almost lucky shot.

Get your chuck-a-pucks early before they run out and try your luck at the MILLION DOLLAR CHUCK-A-PUCK!

The Stingrays made some roster changes last week. The team traded Bryson Busniuk to the Columbia Inferno for cash considerations and added two new players to the roster.

Right winger Matt Stefanishion joined the team Saturday night after being sent down from the Hershey Bears. This is his first year of professional hockey, and he scored his first professional point on Sunday with a goal against the Checkers, which also was the game-winning goal for the team. Stefanishion is a native of Daysland, Alberta and adds size to the team at 6'3, 225-pounds.

Center Kyle Wilson is also in his first year playing professional hockey. He played seven games this season with the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League, and signed as a free agent with the Stingrays on Saturday. He joined the line-up in Sunday's game, and is still looking for his first point. The Oakville, Ontario native is 6', 200-pounds and was a ninth round draft pick of the Minnesota Wild in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Daren Machesney (G) recorded his first win of his professional career on Sunday with the shutout against Charlotte. This marks the Stingrays first shutout of the season.

Chris Chaput (C) is second in the league in power play goals with seven.

Davis Parley (G) continues to rank 2nd in the league in minutes (760). He is also 3rd in wins (7), 2nd in saves (378), and first in overtime wins with three.

Jamie Fraser continues to make his mark on the league. He is 1st for rookies in points with 15, 1st in assists with 13, and his two shorthanded assists rank him 1st in the league for that as well.
