Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the fourth consecutive year, the Charlotte Checkers will host thousands of their most enthusiastic fans at the Checkers hockey game at Charlotte Bobcats Arena on the Friday night after Thanksgiving. Elementary and middle grade Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Gaston County public school students and participating Charlotte-area private school students have each received a voucher to attend the Checkers hockey game free of charge - as guests of the Checkers - on Friday, November 24th. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m.
Participating schools have been provided with - and have distributed to each student - a Youth Ticket Voucher which must be redeemed for an actual ticket at the arena box office. Redemption may be done during normal business hours between November 16th and the night of the game but the team advises early redemption to avoid long lines.
"Charlotte Checkers/CMS-Gaston County Night on the day after Thanksgiving has quickly become a tradition that families look forward to," said Checkers president Jeff Longo. "The entire evening is centered around kids. After everyone has spent an entire day indoors with family, a Checkers game is a great way to get everyone out of the house to continue a weekend of fun. Those coming to the game are encouraged to bring a teddy bear to throw to center ice after the first Checkers goal is scored because it's the night of the annual Teddy Bear Toss.*
"The rules are simple. As soon as the first Checkers goal is scored in the game, the horn will sound, the clock will stop, and the signal will be given for all fans who have brought Teddy Bears to the game to hurl their bears right toward center ice. The thousands of Teddy Bears which come flying toward the rink will be delivered to Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital by Checkers players, in person."
Fans will also be treated to performances by the ZOOperstars! who will entertain fans during the intermissions.
