Wranglers Sweep Three Games At Alaska To Move Into First Place

Strong play from goaltenders Mike McKenna and Kevin Nastiuk and offensive production from rookie Aki Seitsonen and Tyler Mosienko helped Las Vegas sweep a three-game series at Alaska and move to the top of the Pacific Division and the ECHL with 21 points (7-1-7).

The Wranglers improved to 6-0-5 on the road and helped atone for Alaska eliminating them from the Kelly Cup Playoffs, including a 4-3 triple overtime win in Game 6. It is the first time that Alaska has lost three consecutive home games since 2005 (Jan. 12 vs. Idaho and Jan. 14 and 15 vs. Fresno) and only the second time since the Aces joined the ECHL as an expansion team in 2003-04. Las Vegas plays at Fresno on Wednesday and host Bakersfield on Sunday.

In his second professional season, McKenna posted his first shutout of the season stopping 20 shots in a 4-0 win on Thursday and made 37 saves in a 5-3 win on Saturday. He is 4-1-5 and tied for second in the league with one shutout while he is ninth with a goals-against average of 2.50. Nastiuk, who is also in his second season, made 18 saves in a 4-1 win on Sunday to improve to 2-0-2 with a goals-against average of 3.38.

The 20-year-old Seitsonen led the Wranglers at Alaska with three goals and tied with Mosienko, who had a team-high five assists, for the team lead with six points. Seitsonen, who had a goal in each of the three games to extend his goal streak to four games (5g) and his point streak to four games (5g-3a), is tied for fourth among league rookies with six goals and tied for ninth with 11 points. Mosienko has a six-game point streak (3g-9a), including five multiple-point games, and he is tied for 11th in scoring with 17 points and assists with 11.

Defensemen Ryan Bonni and Jason Krischuk each had four points on a goal and three assists at Alaska. Krischuk has a four-game point streak (1g-4a) after going scoreless in his first two games. Bonni is second on the team and tied for fourth among league defensemen with 10 assists while he is second on the team and tied for fifth among defensemen with 12 points.

Weekend Produces Three Three-Goal Games, Four-Goal Game

Mike Angelidis of Florida and Shawn Collymore of Reading each had three goals and Louis Goulet of Augusta had four goals on Friday giving the ECHL its first three hat trick day since Jan. 7, 2006 and Mac Faulkner of Columbia had three goals on Saturday to give the ECHL 13 hat tricks.

Goulet, who scored the game winner for Augusta in its 6-5 overtime win at Texas, is the third player this season to score four goals, joining Gwinnett rookie Colton Fretter (Oct. 29 at South Carolina) and Utah's Brad Herauf (Nov. 4 at Idaho).

It is the first career hat trick for rookie Angelidis, who also set a career best with three points, while it is the second career three-goal game for Collymore, who has three multiple-point games in a row (4g-4a).

It was the first-ever hat trick for Faulkner, who had his first multiple-goal game on Nov. 14 at Florida and who has seven points (6g-1a) in his last three games. In his second full professional season, Faulkner has 13 points (10g-3a) in 14 games after scoring 31 points (11g-20a) in 59 games with Long Beach as a rookie in 2005-06.

The only player with more than one hat trick this season is Dusty Jamieson had a hat trick in each of Charlotte's first two games of the season on Oct. 20 and 21 to become only the fifth player since 1997 to score three goals in back-to-back games. Phoenix defenseman also had a hat trick on Oct. 20 while Johnstown center Jean Desrochers had three goals on Oct. 21 for the only other multiple hat trick days of the season.
