
Checkers go to 8-4-0 winning two of three last week

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers moved to 8-4-0 after winning 2 of their 3 games last week. The Checkers defeated the South Carolina Stingrays 4-3 on Friday night and the Gwinnett Gladiators 3-1 at home on Saturday night. After winning against South Carolina on Friday, the Stingrays traveled to Charlotte and defeated the Checkers 1-0 on Sunday. Rick Kozak led the team in scoring with a pair of goals on Friday night and Mark Lee continued his scoring streak with four points notching a goal on a penalty shot and 3 assists. Lee is third in the ECHL with 21 points (6g, 15a). The Checkers face a strenuous schedule with 4 games in the coming week. The Checkers travel to Gwinnett to play Tuesday and Thursday, and return home to face the Florida Everblades on Friday and the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday.

Friday, November 17, 2006 @ South Carolina, W, 4-3 A pair of goals from right wing Rick Kozak, and the return of forward Jakub Petruzalek from an American Hockey League assignment sparked the Charlotte Checkers to a 4-3 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays Friday night in Charleston. Kozak's second goal of the night at 14:23 of the third period proved to be the game winner, and came just 21 seconds after the Stingrays had tied the game at 3-3.
Saturday, November 18, 2006 vs. Gwinnett, W, 3-1 The Charlotte Checkers defeated the division-leading Gwinnett Gladiators 3-1 on Saturday night at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena in front of 5,526 fans. Mark Lee led the team in scoring with one goal and one assist, and goaltender Alex Westlund took the win stopping 28 of 29 shots on goal.
Sunday, November 19, 2006 vs. South Carolina, L, 1-0 The Charlotte Checkers were defeated 1-0 by the South Carolina Stingrays Sunday at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena in front of 3,827 fans. Matt Stefanishion led the Stingrays in scoring with the only goal of the evening.
