Wheeling Nailers News Release

Estero, Fla. - Wheeling's first ever trip to sunny southwest Florida was a nice getaway for the Nailers in the middle of chilly December but it ended with a losing decision to the hands of the Florida Everblades.

The Wheeling Nailers had 42 of their 43 shots turned away by Florida goalie Barry Brust and dropped a 5-1 decision to close out play before the holiday break. Wheeling lost 2 of 3 games in the mini-series at the Everblades and is now off for the next week before returning to action next Saturday at Kalamazoo.

T.J. Fox scored the lone goal for the Nailers while Mathieu Roy led the Everblades attack with a pair of goals.

Michael-Lee Teslak made his Nailers debut and took the loss. Steve McJannet scored on a quick blast between the circles just 11 seconds into the game to start the scoring.

The Nailers fell to 13-15-2 with the loss and 8-8-0 on the road. Florida improved to 14-12-4 with the win. The Everblades took the season series over Wheeling 3 games to 1 in the first games between the two teams.

Florida led 3-0 lead after one period and extended that lead to 4-0 even though Wheeling was getting the majority of the shots. Barry Brust made several fine saves and also turned away many long drives from the perimeter and controlled the rebounds to keep the Nailers at bay.

Wheeling had a good opportunity in the 2nd period to close the gap and get back into the game when they were trailing 4-0 but had over 1:30 of 5-on-3 power play time from back-to-back Florida penalties. T.J. Fox picked up the rebound off an Alex Grant shot and stuffed it in for his 6th of the year to close the gap to 4-1. But the Nailers were unable to convert on the rest of that power play chance and Matthieu Roy shortly thereafter hurt the Nailers' momentum with his 2nd goal of the night.

Jordan Fox returned to the Nailers after his 3 game call-up to Rochester of the AHL and was inserted into the line-up in place of Aaron Clarke who was placed on the injured-reserve with a knee injury and is expected to miss at least two weeks.

At the 30 game mark into the season and now at the holiday break the Nailers are led by Montreal native Thomas Beauregard whose 18 goals tops the ECHL.

After a break for the Christmas holiday the Nailers will return to action Saturday, December 26th at Kalamazoo.

Wheeling's next home game is Sunday, December 27th at 6:35 against Elmira on another Sunday Family FunDay featuring a post-game open-skate with the Nailers players. Be sure to bring your skates and gloves!

The Nailers also have their traditional New Years' Eve game upcoming with a Thursday, December 31st matchup against the Toledo Walleye on Michael Jackson Tribute Night!
