Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades scored just 11-seconds into the game and never looked back. Florida beat Wheeling for the third time in four tries 5-1 Saturday night in Germain Arena. Ryan Lang (8) led the way for the 'Blades with a three-point night (1g, 2a) while Barry Brust stopped 42 of 43 Nailer shots to record the win in net for Florida.
Before the fans could find their seats, Steve McJannet put home the first goal of the game for the 'Blades 11-seconds into the period. Colin Nicholson won the face off to Ryan Lang who dumped the puck in and McJannet found it behind the net then put it behind Michael Lee-Teslak and a 1-0 Florida lead. Just over six minutes later Mathieu Roy (4) extended the 'Blades to 2-0. Florida capped off the scoring in the opening stanza with Ryan Lang (8) shot in the slot. McJannet and Nicholson also figured in on the scoring on the third Florida goal.
The Everblades extended their lead to 4-0 in the second period. Ross Carlson (9) centered the puck from behind the net off the skate of Cleve Kinley and past Teslak into the Wheeling net. Brandon Buck and Ben Olson picked up assists on the goal.
Wheeling threatened in the second period thanks to a five-on-three advantage. The Nailers posted their lone goal on the power play at 9:43 of the period. TJ Fox (6) picked up a rebound off the pad of Barry Brust and fired it into the open Florida net. Mathieu Roy (5) would again extend the Everblades lead to four goals at 13:36 of the period. Roy fired in a rebound off a Ryan Lang shot to finish the scoring for both teams.
Florida will have a week off for the holiday break.
