Goalie Pielmeier scores empty-net goal in 6-4 win

West Valley City, Utah - G Timo Pielmeier scored his first professional goal into an empty net to help preserve a 6-4 Bakersfield Condors (18-7-2-0, 38 points) win over the Utah Grizzlies (14-10-2-0, 30 points), Saturday night at the E Center in front of 4,016 fans. F Stephane Goulet helped complete the weekend sweep by chipping in two goals and adding one assist. The Condors defeated the Grizzlies 3-2 on Friday.

The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead with a power play tally by F Tom May at 7:42 of the opening period. The Condors countered to mke it 1-1 at even strength with 4:37 remaining in the first period. Goulet scored his second goal of the weekend, firing a wrist shot past G Parker Van Buskirk on a 2-on-1 break.

The Condors took a 2-1 lead in the second period when LW Mathieu Aubin took a perfect feed from D Evan Stoflet for his sixth goal of the season at 4:03. Just one minute later, Goulet scored his second of the game and eighth of the season off a pass from LW Ryan Donally for a 3-1 Condors advantage. LW Ryan Kinaseiwch cut the lead to 3-2 when he fired a slap shot from the point on the power play with 6:25 remaining in the middle frame. With 2:46 left in the middle frame, F Andrew Ianiero stuffed home his ninth goal of the season on the power for a 4-2 Bakersfield lead. The Condors led 30-16 in shots after 40 minutes of play.

It was a power play-filled third period as a total of 34 penalty were called, including 20 minutes on Kinasewich, who was ejected for arguing a call. The result was three power goals in the period. Before being tossed, Kinasewich made it a 4-3 game with a power tally at the 21 second mark of the third period. D Eric Regan scored his eighth of the season on the power play at 2:25 of the final stanza to regain the two-goal lead. But the Grizzlies fought back again to make it 5-4 with LW AJ Perry's power play goal at the 6:29 of the third period. The Condors played it tough the final 13 minutes, bending but not breaking. Then, with less than five seconds to go in the game, Pielmeier scored when he fired it the length of the ice into the empty net to complete the scoring.
