Reading Royals News Release

Elmira, NY - The Reading Royals of the ECHL (17-9-1-2=37, 1st East Division), affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, defeated the Elmira Jackals, 2-1, at First Arena in Elmira, New York. This game, which extended the Royals win streak to four, marked the eleventh one-goal decision in favor of Reading this year (11-1-1-2). Goaltender Matt Dalton (Win, 9-4-0-1; 30/31), who extended his personal unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-0-1) became the first Royals' goaltender this year to hold the opposition to less than two goals. Elmira's Julien Ellis (Loss, 2-5-0-0; 22/26) sustained the loss in his first start for Elmira. The Royals power play was held off the board (0-3). Elmira scored their lone goal while playing with the man advantage (1-8).

After a scoreless first, the Jackals broke through 12:21 into the second on their fifth power play opportunity of the night when Jarrett Konkle fired a shot from the high slot. Chris Korchinski, who had established body position at the top of the crease, deflected Konkle's shot low glove side for his ninth of the year. The Royals responded 2:32 later when Marc Cavosie laid a perfect chip off the wall from the defensive zone to the offensive blue line where Ben Gordon skated into the pass and was off on a break. Gordon slipped the puck under and through Ellis for his fifteenth of the year. Reading got what proved to be the game winner with just 4:16 left in the game. Nick St. Pierre fired a wrister from the right point that appeared to deflect off someone and ended up in the net for his third of the season-and first game winner as a pro.

The Royals are off until next Saturday (December 26 @ 7:35 pm) when the team will return to First Arena to take on the Jackals for the third consecutive game. Reading's game night broadcast on Friday on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will kick off at 7:05 pm.
