ANDY CHIODO MAKES NHL DEBUT WITH PENGUINS

WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers announce today that goaltender Andy Chiodo made his National Hockey League debut last night with the Pittsburgh Penguins, a 4-3 loss at the New York Islanders. Chiodo played two games earlier this season for the Nailers and becomes the 21st former Nailers player to advance to the NHL.

Chiodo, a 20-year-old rookie from Toronto, ONT, made 30 saves last night for the Penguins in the loss. Chiodo played two games earlier this season for the Nailers, November 21 at Johnstown and November 22 at Toledo. The Nailers lost both games Chiodo played. He has also played 31 games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. In the AHL, he has a record of 12-13-2 with two shutouts. Chiodo was selected by the Penguins in the seventh round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Chiodo is the 21st player in the history of the Wheeling franchise to advance to the NHL, second only to the 22 players that advanced from the Hampton Roads Admirals. For the Nailers franchise history, dating back to the years the team played in Winston-Salem, NC, Chiodo is the 24th player to advance to the NHL, the most by one franchise in ECHL history.

The Nailers play at home Friday, February 20 against the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:30p.m. Gary's Body Shop will present Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s #8 Chevrolet during the game. Earnhardt's car will be making its first appearance since he won the 2004 Daytona 500. The first 2,000 fans will receive a Nailers poster courtesy of Printech, Zee Photo and WTOV-9.

The ECHL Championship Trophy, the Kelly Cup, will also be on display at WesBanco Arena during Friday's game. It is the first time in the cup's history that it has gone on tour to be displayed in various ECHL arena's.
