
Goaltender Valley Called Up to Worcester (AHL)

Peoria, Ill. (February 19, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that sixth-year goaltender Mike Valley has been called up to the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate â the Worcester IceCats.
Valley â a 6-foot-1, 185-pound native of Richmond, British Columbia â has registered a 17-6-6 record for the Rivermen during 2003-2004 with a 2.27 goals against average (GAA) and a .914 save percentage. The 27-year-old netminder â who has started seven of Peoria's last nine games â has also notched two shutouts this season, the eighth and ninth of his North American career.
Valley â who will enjoy his AHL first call-up this season with Worcester â collected a single-season, career-high 18 wins in 2002-2003, 16 of which came with the Wheeling Nailers and two of which came with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL). He backstopped the Louisiana IceGators to the 2000 Kelly Cup Finals with a 12-4-0 postseason record, a 2.75 GAA and a .918 save percentage before the IceGators lost to the Rivermen in six games. He departed the NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin after his sophomore year, signing with the NHL's Vancouver Canucks organization.
"The Golden Jet" Bobby Hull â the former Chicago Blackhawk Great â will appear at Carver Arena on Friday, February 20, when the Rivermen host the archrival Dayton Bombers at 7:00 p.m.
It is also a Coca-Cola Finally Friday. Fans receive a 2-for-1 Upper Bowl admission when they present a Cherry Coke or Vanilla Coke can at the Carver Arena Box Office. Miss Hooters International Erica Burgess will also make an appearance during the game.
The conclusion of the Single Male Contest will take place with Rivermen defenseman Scott Crawford picking the winner from two female finalists. The winning female will then have an opportunity to choose between a date with Scott or a prize package.
The Peoria Rivermen are a member of the ECHL â America's Premier "AA" Hockey League.
