Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, Idaho - Goaltender Dan Ellis was victorious in net for the Dallas Stars in a 4-3 edge over the Kings in Los Angeles last night. Ellis is the first player ever to start a season with the AA Idaho Steelheads and see action in an NHL game in the same year.

The rookie goaltender turned away 25 of 28 shots helping the Stars move ahead of the Kings in the Pacific Conference as both team position for a playoff spot. An almost certain future Hall-of-Famer, Luc Robitaille, scored the first goal against Ellis with a bullet from a face off in the first period.

Ellis was recalled to Dallas from the Utah Grizzlies, the Stars' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL) on February 9th. Ellis had been recalled to Utah from Idaho (ECHL) on January 13th.

This season with the Steelheads, the 6-0, 185-pound goaltender played in 23 games. He recorded a 13-8-1 record with a 2.56 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage, and two shutouts.
