Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, Ill. (February 19, 2004) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that All-Star left wing Randy Rowe has returned from the American Hockey League's (AHL) St. John's Maple Leafs – the primary affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs. It was the first AHL call-up of Rowe's three-year career.

Rowe, who sat out the last three games for the Maple Leafs, tallied three points (1g, 2a) in seven games with a +1 plus/minus. He played predominantly with Kyle Wellwood, his linemate from the Major Junior "A" Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Rowe posted his best Major Junior "A" season in 2000-2001 on a line with Wellwood and NHLer Branko Radivojevic, tallying an OHL-leading 64 goals and 102 points (4th in the OHL).

Rowe – a 6-foot, 198-pound native of Burford, Ontario – earned 2004 Par-A-Dice ECHL All-Star MVP honors with three points (2g, 1a), including the game winner, in a 7-6 Eastern Conference win on January 21. The third-year left wing, who finished tied for second in the Hardest Shot Contest in the Skills Competition with a 94.1 mph slap shot, was also named Captain of the Eastern Conference.

Rowe still leads the Rivermen in goals (25), game-winning goals (7), power play goals (7), points (45) and shorthanded points (4). He is tied for second in the ECHL in game-winning goals.

"The Golden Jet" Bobby Hull – the former Chicago Blackhawk Great – will appear at Carver Arena on Friday, February 20, when the Rivermen host the archrival Dayton Bombers at 7:00 p.m.

It is also a Coca-Cola Finally Friday. Fans receive a 2-for-1 Upper Bowl admission when they present a Cherry Coke or Vanilla Coke can at the Carver Arena Box Office. Miss Hooters International Erica Burgess will also make an appearance during the game.

The conclusion of the Single Male Contest will take place with Rivermen defenseman Scott Crawford picking the winner from two female finalists. The winning female will then have an opportunity to choose between a date with Scott or a prize package.

The Peoria Rivermen are a member of the ECHL – America's Premier "AA" Hockey League.
