Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta Lynx scored three power-play goals and added a shorthanded goal, as they defeated the Florence Pride 5-2 Thursday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center Augusta scored the only goal of the opening period, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity in the opening moments. Sebastien Laplante was able to make the initial save, but the rebound sat in the crease, and was pushed home by Todd Bennett, who picked up his 12th goal of the season.
The Pride were fortunate to be down only one after the first period, as the Lynx had two shots hit off of the post, and another goal waived off at the 13:32 mark because a second puck appeared on the ice.
Augusta took a 2-0 lead 9:33 into the second period, taking advantage of another Pride penalty. Florence was unable to clear the puck out of its zone, and it was Scott Corbett who benefited, as he gathered in a loose puck in front of Laplante and flipped it past the Pride goaltender for his sixth goal of the season.
The Lynx made it 3-0 just 1:50 later, this time with a shorthanded tally. Scott Balan dove to the ice attempting to keep the puck in the Lynx zone. He was unable to do so, and the Lynx came back the other way on a 2-on-1break. John Cronin feathered a perfect pass to Bennett on the near post, and he tipped it past Laplante for his second tally of the night.
But, the Pride finally solved Augusta goaltender Greg g Naumenko on the same power play. Allan Sirois fed Vladimir Gusev pinching in from the blue line, and Gusev was able to beat Naumenko with a quick one-timer for his third goal of the season at 12:08.
Just 2:03 later, the Pride pulled back within one, once again scoring on the power play. This time it was Sirois finding the back of the net, as he gathered in an Eric Naud rebound, and quickly fired it back at the net to beat Naumenko for his eighth goal of the season.
Augusta went back up by scoring its third power-play goal of the evening at the 2:23 mark of the final period. Matt Dzieduszycki put a quick shot by Laplante for his seventh goal of the season.
The Lynx made it 5-2, scoring at 10:34, just three seconds after another power play expired. Jarrett Thompson fed a perfect cross-crease pass to Jonathan Gagnon, who tipped it past Laplante for goal number 16.
Florence returns home for two games this weekend. Saturday, the Pride host the Florida Everblades at 7:30 p.m. on NASCAR Night presented by Darlington Raceway. During the first intermission of the game, it's the seventh annual Wiener Dog Race. Sunday afternoon, the Pride take on the Pensacola Ice Pilots for the only time this season in a 2:30 p.m. matinee. It's another Sunday Kids' Day at the Lion's Den, with tickets for kids 12 and under available for just $2.50, while kids' meals will be available for an additional $2.50.
Tickets for those games, and all remaining Pride home games, are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
